Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

"I hate violence. I hate injustice more. I just want to be a fry cook, but the world demands more from me than eggs and pancakes."— Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas sees dead people. The kinds of dead people unable to let go of their Earth lives, for something holds them here. For the dead asks Odd to help them move on. Along with these dead people, Odd also sees the dark forces (named "bodachs") that follow evil people around as they plan and plot destruction. Odd's sixth sense -- which he refers to as a "psychic magnetism" -- allows him to solve crimes for the local chief of police, chase murderers through his neighbourhood, and let Elvis cry on his shoulder. So, when a pack of bodachs follow one Bob Robertson into the diner where Odd works as a fry cook, he finds himself swept up in a gang plot to shoot up a department store, which he believes will kill his girlfriend.

Twilight

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
Twilight is one of those books that will keep you up on your toes who you are reading it.
Bella leaves Arizona to live with her father in Forks she doesn’t expect to like it. Bella soon makes some new friends at school but when she sees a boy called Edward Cullen sitting with his brothers and sisters in the cafeteria she is interested. Edward is attractive. Edward and his family have lived in Forks for a couple of years they have never really been accepted by the townsfolk. At first Edward is distanced from Bella, sometimes it almost seems like he can’t stand to be in the same room as her. But then Edward and Bella start liking each other. Even as Bella falls hopelessly in love with Edward, she still can’t work out exactly what makes him so different to everyone else. On a trip to the beach, Bella is told about the local legend about the “cold ones”, a group of blood drinkers who have sworn off hunting humans but are still not welcome on Indian land because vampires are not to be trusted. Realizing that Edward is a vampire changes nothing for Bella, she knows that she still loves him even if he’s not human. Edward was made a vampire when he was seventeen years-old. For Edward his love for Bella is both a delight and a torment. A delight because she is the first person he has loved ever since he was made a vampire. A torment because she smells unbelievably good.
